Das Whitney Museum in New York organisierte die erste Retrospektive des Künstlers, die danach in San Francisco und Chicago gezeigt wird. Die Mammutaufgabe bewältigte Donna De Salvo mustergültig. Sie kannte Andy Warhol noch und ließ ihre persönliche Auseinandersetzung mit seiner Kunst in dessen Atelier einfließen. Allein für den Katalog die Bildrechte einzuholen, muss eine gigantische Aufgabe gewesen sein.
