As Americans continue to seek value amid increased food costs and inflation, Subway is adding its hat to the summer deals ring, offering customers the promise of more bang for their buck with a new menu item. Although inflation has dipped over the last couple months, Fry said that Subway is "focused on listening to guests" who have sought out snacks on the go.

New series shows gymnastics GOAT Simone Biles' fight to return to the Olympics
A new docu-series about legendary gymnast Simone Biles and her road back to the Olympics is set to be released ahead of the 2024 Paris Games. The upcoming "Simone Biles Rising" will give fans and viewers an inside look at some of the Olympian's video diaries and her fight to return to competition after withdrawing from several events at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics three years ago. "I knew it would be a long journey, but to me, it wasn't done," Biles says in the trailer for the Netflix docu-series.

Tropical Storm Alberto, the first named storm of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, has made landfall in Mexico after pummeling Texas with rain. A whopping 9.5 inches of rain has inundated Rockport, Texas, just north of Corpus Christi. Alberto has already brought significant storm surge of more than 4 feet of water to the Texas coast.

New horned dinosaur species discovered 'largest and most ornate' of its kind ever found
A new, giant-horned species of dinosaur was discovered that researchers said is the "largest and most ornate" of its kind ever found, according to a study published Thursday in the journal PeerJ. Fossils of the dinosaur, which has been named Lokiceratops rangiformis -- including a skull and a partial skeleton -- were unearthed on private land in Kennedy Coulee, in the badlands of northern Montana near the U.S.-Canada border. Lokiceratops belongs to a group of horned dinosaurs known as ceratopsids, which evolved during the Late Cretaceous period, about 92 million years ago and survived until the end of the dinosaurs.

Kenyan protesters clash with police over controversial tax bill
The controversial bill -- known as the Finance Bill 2024 -- has sparked discontent across the East African nation since first being presented in parliament in May, the new bill proposing an increase in an array of taxes and levies for Kenyans. Hundreds took to the streets of Kenya's capital Nairobi on Tuesday, with armed police lobbing tear gas canisters and firing water cannons at demonstrators who had assembled in Nairobi's Central Business district.

With a week to go until the first presidential debate, President Joe Biden heads to Camp David on Thursday to prepare for his critical matchup with former President Donald Trump. The famous rustic retreat in the Maryland mountains has hosted many debate boot camps during election years, and Biden hopes to make the most of its secluded setting in the days before heading to the June 27 debate hosted by CNN in Atlanta. Unlike in 2020, Biden's 2024 duties as president will take away some of the time he has for debate prep, meaning much of it will be confined to the days immediately beforehand, officials said.

Eli Lilly warns about dangers of fake and counterfeit Mounjaro, Zepbound
The company also announced new lawsuits against wellness centers and medical spas advertising these drugs. Eli Lilly's main competitor, Novo Nordisk, which sells Ozempic and Wegovy, has also filed lawsuits against med spas purportedly selling knockoff versions. In its Thursday open letter, Eli Lilly issued a major warning to consumers, saying the company is "deeply" concerned about the proliferation of online sales of fake versions of its products, and that people should never put products labeled "research purposes only" or "not for human consumption" into their bodies.

This year's summer solstice arrives as a dangerous heat wave affects millions across the country, with early-season extreme heat impacting parts of the Midwest and Northeast. Brutal summer heat, however, will increase in frequency and duration for much of the country over the coming weeks and months. The summer solstice marks the beginning of astronomical summer in the Northern Hemisphere, according to NASA.

4 injured in shooting at party at Oakland’s Lake Merritt, police say
At least four people were injured on Wednesday night as gunfire erupted at an event on Lake Merritt, in Oakland, California, police said. Triple murder suspect on the loose in Arkansas: Police
An "armed and dangerous" suspect connected to three murders and a slew of other crimes across the country is on the loose in Arkansas, according to authorities. Stacy Lee Drake, 50, is wanted in connection with three homicides in Oklahoma, stemming from two separate carjackings, according to Arkansas State Police. "Drake is separately wanted on multiple felony warrants from multiple jurisdictions, with charges including aggravated robbery, carjacking, and murder," investigators said in a statement.

Louisiana public schools and colleges will be required to post an image of the Ten Commandments next year after a controversial bill was signed into law Wednesday. Under H.B. 71 public classrooms starting from kindergarten to the collegiate level must have a poster of the Commandments up at the start of 2025. Civil rights groups have already questioned the law that passed in Louisiana's Republican-controlled state legislature on May 28, contending it violates the separation of church and state in public buildings.
