Investigate Kagha is a side quest you can accept in Baldur’s Gate 3. It is entirely optional and can easily be missed, so our walkthrough will guide you in finding the quest, in addition to taking the next steps to ensure that you achieve the happiest ending possible for the grove.

Starting Investigate Kagha

If Kagha’s attitude leaves you concerned for the rest of the druids and the people in Druids’ Grove, it’s possible to dig deeper into her motivations. From her main chamber, head into the round room to the northwest, and read the Rite of Thorns on her desk. This starts another side quest within the larger “Save the Refugees” quest.

From here, you need to search these rooms for your next clue. The quest marker isn’t marking the specific location, it’s showing that the item is in the general vicinity, so it’s of little help. Luckily, we can help! Your next clue is located in the same room you found the Rite of Thorns.

It’s a chest behind the bookshelf against the west wall, you can hop onto the stone ledge on one side to get back there.

You can try to pick the lock, or if you have a high enough stealth skill, pickpocket the key off of Kagha herself!

Once you’ve got the chest open, you can read the letter inside for information on your next stop.

The Plot Thickens

Kagha is supposed to meet someone in the swamp to the south. When you’re ready, head out of the Druids’ Grove from the front entrance, then head west until you cross the stone bridge, and south from there. Eventually you’ll reach some swamplands full of traps and demented sheep. The meeting place appears on the map due to the quest marker, so head in the general southeast direction and jump across the chain of small islands to reach your destination.

When you approach the quest marker, you’ll get into a fight with a couple of Wood Woads and their Mud Mephit companions. This fight can be tough without the proper positioning, standing in the water or mud can give you disadvantage on normal attacks, so be sure to stand on dry land or on the rocks. While damage is important, utility might be moreso; spells or skills that increase your attack rolls or armor class can keep you in the fight longer.

Additionally, be sure to use your characters to exploit their strengths, Astarion as a rogue may best serve your party by hiding and sneak attacking constantly, and a Cleric or Bard is only as helpful as the spells they cast, so go all out when the situation calls for it.

Once the fight is over, head over to the meeting place at the quest marker. The southwest side of the large tree has a wooden crevice; interact with it to retrieve a letter. Read it to learn why Kagha is so set on completing the Rite of Thorns, then return to the Druids’ Grove to confront her. A long rest may be in order here, you have another fight coming up, but you'll have plenty of assistance this time.

The Truth Comes Out

As soon as you mention the Shadow Druids, a short scene will play out, and you’ll finally be free to attack Kagha without throwing the grove into a civil war. Depending on your choices here, you can also wrest Kagha free from the Shadow Druids’ influence.

This battle pits the three former rats (and possibly Kagha) against everyone else in the room. Use your spells or abilities to kill them or stop them from attacking with sleep, hold spells, or anything else you have. When the fight is over, you can speak to Zevlor to report the developments, and speak to Kagha (if she’s alive) to learn more about her fall from grace. For your efforts, Zevlor will give you Hellrider’s Pride, a pair of gauntlets that benefit a healer, such as Shadowheart.

Zevlor will also give you another quest, Defeat the Goblins, where you’ll need to deal with the goblin’s leadership to help Zevlor’s people reach Baldur’s Gate safely. If you’ve taken on the quest, Save the Goblin Sazza, this may make things a little easier.
