This no-knead artisan bread recipe is a fool-proof, 5-minute bread that tastes like something you'd get at a fancy restaurant but is super simple to make at home in only a few minutes. It is similar to my Whole Wheat No-Knead Bread Recipe HERE, but because this is made with white flour, it is lighter and pairs perfectly with olive oil and balsamic vinegar dip. Artisan Bread

Artisan bread is one of my favorite kinds of bread. I don't usually use it to make sandwiches, although you totally can. I prefer it as an appetizer bread, or something added to a charcuterie board. My favorite way to eat this, however, is to add some extra virgin olive oil to a bowl, sprinkle a bit of balsamic vinegar in it, add some fresh cracked pepper and dip the bread in it.

If you have never eaten this kind of bread dipped like this, you are missing out! It is AMAZING! Do it. Today.

What is an artisan bread?

Artisan bread isn't actually a specific type of bread. It is typically bread that comes unpacked, freshly made and doesn't have a long shelf life. It tends to be made with all-natural ingredients (which gives it its shorter shelf life) and is usually made as a small batch. When I think of this kind of bread, it tends to have a lighter texture then sandwich bread. This recipe delivers on all of these things which makes it, in my opinion, the best recipe there is!

What are the types of artisan breads?

There are actually a lot of types of artisan bread, here are a few:

What is no-knead bread?

No-knead bread is a bread recipe that does not require much or any kneading. In this no-knead bread recipe, you will simply stir the initial ingredients together, let it sit, then mix or lightly hand mix/knead the remaining ingredients prior to baking. This no-knead bread recipe does not require a stand mixer or a hand mixer. It also doesn't require much hands-on time, so it is perfect if you want fresh bread but don't have a big kitchen, a lot of time or a stand mixer.

What is rustic artisan bread?

Rustic bread is typically considered bread that is not shaped in a pan. It is made using very simple ingredients like flour, salt, water, and yeast. It is typically baked at a higher temperature too which yields a thicker crust.

Can you make this bread recipe as a rustic loaf?

Yes, you certainly can. Simply shape it, put it on parchment and on a cookie sheet to cook it. It may change the cooking time a bit. But I decided to put it in a traditional bread pan to shape it keeping the cooking time to only 30 minutes.

Does 5-minute bread, really take 5 minutes to make?

Yes, and no. 5-minute bread takes about 5 minutes of hands-on time. But it needs additional time to sit, rest, ferment, and rise. Because you don't knead it, it actually requires longer to just sit than bread that will be kneaded. But this time is typically spent overnight, and with the very small amount of hands-on time required, 5-minute artisan bread is seriously my favorite kind of bread to make!

Is artisan bread white bread?

No, it does not need to be white bread. This recipe is for white bread, but I recently made a whole wheat artisan loaf that is equally as delicious! You can use any combination of white and whole wheat flour for an artisan loaf and get great results every single time.

How do you eat artisan bread?

Artisan bread can be sliced and topped with butter, jams, charcuterie, or even dipped in olive oil and balsamic vinegar. You can even use it for a sandwich if you desire, toast it, or use it for french toast. There are so many options of how to eat this kind of bread!

How long does it take to make no-knead bread?

It takes me about 2-3 minutes to stir the initial ingredients together. Then it will sit overnight to ferment and rise. The next day it will take about another 2 minutes to mix in a little more flour, cheese and herbs before you put it into a pan. After that, it will sit for about another 1.5 hours and then bake for about 30 minutes. The hands-on time needed for this recipe is very small, only about 5 minutes, but it does require a bit of time to sit and rise. So plan ahead, stir your ingredients together the night before, and enjoy fresh artisan bread the next day!

What oven do you use to cook artisan bread?

I am using myBRAVA oven for this artisan bread recipe! A traditional oven will work too. But I really love how my Bravabakes. It is so incredibly consistent and I am able to get a nice outside that sounds hollow when I knock on it while maintaining a soft and fluffy inside. It also cooks incredibly evenly. I love it so much.

What ingredients do you need for this No-Knead Bread Recipe:

How to make No-Knead Artisan Bread

You will simply mix your flour, salt, yeast, sugar, olive oil, and water together in a large bowl. Cover it and let it sit overnight or about 12-18 hours. Once you have reached at least 12 hours, you will put your bread dough onto a floured surface and mix in more flour until it is no longer stick. Place it in a greased pan and let it rise for 1.5 hours, and then bake it in the oven for about 30 minutes.

Directions:

  1. The night before, combine 3 cups white flour, salt, yeast, and sugar in a bowl with a spatula.
  2. Add oil and water and use a spatula to mix until combined.
  3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let sit overnight, or about 12-18 hours.
  4. On your counter (I like to cover mine with plastic wrap for easy clean up), sprinkle flour and then dump the dough onto the counter. The dough will be very wet.
  5. Add more flour to the dough and gently stir it in with a spatula until the "wetness" is gone. It could take a cup of flour or even more, just make sure that the dough is no longer wet and sticky.
  6. Shape the dough and place it in a greased bread pan. Cover it with plastic wrap.
  7. Place this into your TURNED OFF OVEN for 1.5 hours. (do not turn the oven on)
  8. Remove dough from oven and preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
  9. Bake for about 30 minutes or until the top is slightly browned and it sounds "hollow" when you lightly knock on it.
  10. Let cool for a few minutes before removing it from the pan. Let cool completely before cutting.

This is great served with butter, charcuterie, jam or dipped in olive oil and balsamic vinegar!
