My family’s favorite steak street taco recipe is all about the crispy crunchy steak that goes in the tacos. The super thin cut steak gets thoroughly coated in an easy to make spice mix then quickly cooked over high heat to sear in all the flavor. And make the brown crispy bits that taste oh so good.

If you’ve been a guest at my house and have your whole family with you, chances are we’ve had this for dinner. It can be double, tripled, etc. and is a crowd pleaser as everyone gets to fix their meal just the way they want. And I’ve said it a few times already, but that steak is goooood.

This steak taco recipe is a very very basic recipe that anyone can make. It’s mostly about chopping things up and frying the steak quickly in a pan. You can do this if you are a beginner, I promise! What makes this a family style street taco recipe is the way we serve it. Instead of using a million bowls, we chop and serve all the ingredients on one big cutting board in a giant mound of food with a bowl of Pace® Chunky Salsa and lime crema on the side.

The steak in these street tacos fry up to be a little crispy and crunchy and oh-so-full-of-flavor you're family is going to want you to make them every night of the week.

Steak selection: I've used many different cuts for this, from New York strip to bottom round. Use what you can afford; the seasoning covers a lot. You just want to make sure when you slice the steak, it is sliced into thin, bite sized pieces. No wider than half an inch by inch and a half, and thin.

Ingredients

For the Steak

  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Chili Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1.5 pounds steak
  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil

Taco Fixings

  • Corn or Flour Tortillas, warmed
  • Purple cabbage, sliced into strips for tacos
  • Chopped cilantro
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Queso fresco, crumbled
  • Shredded Mexican blend cheese (optional)
  • Avacado slices
  • Lime wedges
  • Lime crema sauce (recipe following)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, blend the garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, paprika and salt.
  2. Thinly slice your steak. Sometimes it cuts a little easier if you slightly freeze it first. Place your steak into the bowl with the spices and toss the steak until it is thoroughly coated in the seasonings.
  3. Put a tablespoon (or two) of olive oil into a medium high pan. When the oil is hot and shimmering, add the steak in batches. You'll want space around the pieces so they cook quickly and crisp up nicely. Cook steak pieces 2 minutes or so on each side until they are your desired doneness.
  4. Make lime crema sauce while steak is cooking.
  5. For family style serving (and quick clean up with way less bowls!) arrange taco fixings on a large cutting board with warmed tortillas. Serve alongside heaps of Pace® Chunky Salsa, Medium!

Llamas love tacos!

The trend of llamas and cactus is amusing. Tacos and llamas are also a natural fit. We sprinkled a few on the table (and on the backdrop.) A few print and cut llamas were dropped into our tissue paper flowers that were scattered on the table for color. I purchased the flowers pre-folded then fluffed them for the party.
