It isn’t hard to understand why people like shopping at discount stores like TJ Maxx.
With a wide range of brands and styles, lower prices than you’d find at major department stores and a pretty good website that makes ordering easy,TJ Maxx is a great option for those of us who want to look good for less.

Nordstrom Rack
Nordstrom Rack tops the list of stores like TJ Maxx because, as arguably their closest competitor, it follows a very similar business model.
Like TJ Maxx, Nordstrom Rack sells a wide range of stylish clothes and accessories, carrying many of the same brands that you can get at the flagship Nordstrom store, but for steeply discounted prices.
Saks Off Fifth
And speaking of close competitors, Saks Off Fifth is basically the Saks version of Nordstrom Rack or TJ Maxx.
It follows the same business model as Nordstrom Rack, offering a lot of the same brands as it carries at Saks Fifth Avenue, its upscale flagship store, but at prices that are much more more affordable for most of us.
Bloomingdales Outlet
Stop* me if you’ve heard this one before: Bloomingdale’s Outlet offers products, brands and styles similar to what you’d find at the chain’s flagship Bloomingdale’s store, but for significantly discounted prices.

Marshalls
Unlike the stores above, Marshalls isn’t a TJ Maxx competitor so much as it’s just another version of the same store.
Marshall’s and TJ Maxx are both owned by the same parent company, and follow the exact same business model, meaning they carry a lot of the same brands and sometimes even the same products.
Sierra
Sticking within the TJ Maxx family, Sierra is the third store in the trifecta of discount clothing stores all owned by the same parent company.
As with its sister stores Marshalls and TJ Maxx, it follows the same model, but it has more of a focus on activewear and outerwear than the other two, which are more fashion-focused.
Walmart
Walmart is a pretty direct competitor to stores like TJ Maxx, though it follows a different business model.
Whereas all of the stores above tend to flip their inventory over quite quickly – meaning you have to pull the trigger right away when you find a piece you like – Walmart tends to keep things in stock for longer. When it comes to clothes, it’s also worth noting that Walmart doesn’t offer top-end brands at discounted prices, like the stores above all do.
Target
Target is obviously a closer competitor to Walmart than to TJ Maxx, but it belongs on this list because it’s another great place to turn to if you’re looking for stylish and affordable staple pieces.
While it doesn’t offer top-shelf brand names, it does put a heavy emphasis on style, and carries its own in-house brands that are both on-point and affordable.

Asos
British brand Asos is an affordable alternative to TJ Maxx that sells exclusively online.

By this point you knew the drill. Not to be outdone by stores like TJ Maxx, Nordstrom Rack and the rest of their ilk, Neiman Marcus has gotten in on the action.
Their Neiman Marcus Last Call brands offers discounts on stock that didn’t sell at full price at their flagship stores, so it’s a great place to score a deal before they retire certain styles.
6pm
6pm is an online clothing store owned by Zappos, which itself is owned by Amazon.
They carry a pretty wide range of clothes, shoes and accessories, and offer some pretty great deals: you can often find pieces and brand names on 6pm selling for half of what you would pay at major retailers.
