Kappa Kappa Gamma (KKG) leaders allegedly broke the rules by welcoming trans women, according to the lawsuit.
The sorority is also accused of fraudulent activity, defamation, breaches of contracts and Ohio’s free speech laws.
The lawsuit names Tracy Nadzieja, a trans lawyer from Arizona, who is in the running to be KKG’s next president, and Artemis Langford, a trans student who was allowed to live among sorority sisters at the University of Wyoming.
“The candidate has currently applied for, and is being considered for, a position in leadership to be voted on through an online election in April 2024,” says the lawsuit, which was filed on Jan. 25.
“This position could include being elected to Fraternity Council or even president of KKG,” it continued, according to the National Review. “Most members remain unaware that the candidate is a man.”

— Independent Women's Forum (@IWF) January 26, 2024🚨 EXCLUSIVE: #KKG alumnae sue sorority for subverting its sisterhood mission
"The lawsuit, filed Thursday, broadens the scope of a first case involving six female students who were forced to share their KKG sorority with the man." @carolinedowney_https://t.co/1arULN4pby
Nadzieja became the sorority’s first trans member in 2020, when KKG accepted her as an alumna initiate, and was electedas district director out of Arizona State University two years later.
The Independent Women’s Law Center (IWLC), associated with the Independent Women’s Forum (IWF), filed the lawsuit on behalf of KKG alumnae Patsy Levang, Cheryl Tuck-Smith, Susan Jennings, Margo Knorr, Karen Pope, and Ann Witt.
The suit alleges that Nadzieja was “fast-tracked” to a KKG leadership position and assigned as an adviser at a university chapter.
KKG Fraternity Council “deceptively misrepresented” Nadzieja as a woman qualified for a leadership position, and it “intentionally concealed” the facts to ensure she was elected.

May Mailman, a legal director for the Independent Women’s Network (IWN) which is backing the case, said that KKG’s requirement of its members to accept men who identify as women is a violation of their bylaws and basic female freedoms.
“Kappa leadership continues to disrespect its members not only by denying them the single-sex organization they were promised, but by lashing out in hopes of silencing the truth.”

In March 2023, seven active KKG members sued the sorority, after it allowed the admission of Langford, who allegedly became physically aroused at the sight of female members in the sorority house.
Langford was accused of asking her sisters questions about their body parts and love lives. Langford denied the allegations.
In August, a federal judge dismissed the lawsuit challenging Langford’s membership and the court refused to define the word “woman.” The ruling has since been appealed.
